WHAT IS
HYPNOTHERAPY?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to
make the desired changes you desire in behaviour, attitude, performance and health
Hypnosis is a safe, natural state of deep
physical and mental relaxation which leads to a wonderful sense of peace
and contentment, many people say they have not experienced such complete
relaxation for years.
It is a state of consciousness,
guided into by
a therapist with the co-operation and willingness of the client, similar to daydreaming during which beneficial physical and
mental changes can occur easily and effortlessly
In this state of heightened focus and
awareness the subconscious opens and accepts positive suggestions and
imagery, you will only accept suggestions that are right for you, i.e.
those which will bring about positive changes in your life. Aside: Milton
Erickson, a very famous hypnotherapist, said it was like putting a
megaphone to the unconscious mind!
It can also be used as a method to gain
fuller insight into past events or whatever is happening currently.
Here is a another definition
"Hypnosis
is an altered state of awareness in which
the deeper or subconscious parts of the mind can be accessed. The
deeper or subconscious parts of the mind contain the memories, thoughts,
feelings, everything that the person has ever experienced. In this state
of mind the person is receptive to taking on board new ideas. Trance is
the same mental brainwave state as hypnosis (as is meditation). Everyone
has experienced trance. There are many natural states of trance. Daydreaming
is a light trance state, and is in fact part of the natural body
cycles. We tend to go into a daydream every one and a half to two hours
throughout the day, although we may not be consciously aware of it because
it is so natural. When you are familiar with driving a
specific route in the car, you can often arrive at your destination with
very little conscious memory of the journey. This is a natural trance.
What can Hypnosis be used very successfully for?
1. Hypnosis may be used to add something to your life that is
missing. Maybe you would like to develop a personal exercise program but
lack the motivation to do so. Hypnosis could be used to help you build a
powerful burning desire to exercise.
2. Hypnosis may be used to take something away you don't want.
For instance, you might be interested in stopping smoking. A skilled
therapist can help you lose interest in smoking and change your self-image
into that of a non-smoker.
3. It may be used to release you from irrational fears and
other forms of limiting beliefs. As an illustration, suppose that you
have a beautiful voice and would love to sing publicly, but are afraid of
the audience. Hypnosis could be used to release you from the bondage of
your fears regardless of the source, allowing you to become the person
that you have always been inside.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q: "Could I stay in it forever?
A: No. A person enters hypnosis through choice and can leave if he/she
chooses. If you were left in hypnosis, you would either come back to full
awareness within a short time or go into a natural, pleasant sleep.
Q: "Could I harm myself?"
A: No.When you are in hypnosis you are conscious, in control and aware
of what is happening.
"When I'm in hypnosis will you make me cluck like a chicken or
bark like a dog?"
A: No.You will not be made to do anything that you do not think is
acceptable or which violates your own values or accepted pattern of
behaviour.
"Will I tell you something I've never told anyone?"
A: Only if you want to. All sessions are confidential and you are in
control at all times.
That's about it really many people have fear's about hypnosis that
they don't need. It's safe, it fun, it's wonderfully relaxing, you won't
do or say anything in hypnosis that you don't want to !
